What is the USC Marshall Online MBA Program?

Students must complete 51 program credits to graduate, focusing on five cross-disciplinary courses: marketing, finance, management, accounting, and entrepreneurship. This should take 21 months. Following that, students can opt to take elective courses or enroll in certificate programs. If interested, students also have the opportunity to complete a dual degree – you must apply to both programs and be admitted separately. There are a number of dual degree options, including JD/MBA, MBA/MD, and MBA/MS.

Why choose an online program over an in-person MBA?

There are many advantages to choosing an online MBA program, and it’s important to do whatever is best for your life and your schedule. Online programs can be cheaper, since there’s no housing cost added to the tuition, which may be a factor in your decision. If you’re unable to step away from a full-time position, or you’re a stay-at-home parent, then an in-person degree might not be an option for you. In that case, an online program could be the way to go! Online MBAs are just as valid and “worth the money” as in-person programs are. Check out our article here for more information.

Do the full-time and online MBA degrees have a similar curriculum?

Yes! Most of the faculty that teach the in-person curriculum also teach in the online program. Both options require the same rigorous, hard work from the students to ensure that they are getting the most out of their time at USC Marshall.

Class Format

USC Marshall makes use of Zoom to host classes, which allows students to interact with each other. From the beginning of the program, students are placed in cohort groups to sharpen their communication and team-building skills. Students are also automatically connected through WhatsApp. Faculty offers online walk-in office hours, or students can get in contact directly to set up a meeting time. Assignments are posted on Canvas, where grades are kept track of and announcements can be given.

Flexibility for working professionals

The program is designed for working professionals who are looking for flexibility in their studies so they can continue working in their current position. All courses are offered both synchronously and asynchronously, allowing students to complete the individual activities when they have the time to. There are also mandatory synchronous activities, which means that students must account for this time and make room in their schedule to attend.

There is one course that requires in-person attendance for one week. Typically, classes are held Monday-Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. PST. Two thirds of the coursework can be completed in the student’s free time, while the rest requires attendance at certain times.

What else does this program require of its students?

As with any program, you must prepare before class and stay up to date with assignments and readings. Group assignments are a large component of the online program, and papers and other projects are assigned by the professors, which vary based on the course.

Career Support

USC Marshall offers a variety of support systems for their graduates, including interview prep and career coaching. They also offer one-on-one career advising and resume and cover letter review.
