Is my GMAT Score Good Enough?

Many applicants to top MBA programs — HBS, Wharton, Kellogg, Booth and others — want to know if their GMAT score is “good enough”. Actually, this is the wrong question because:

  • There’s no simple rule. The score you need to achieve depends on which candidates you’re competing against.
  • Some applicants should re-take the GMAT — even if they already have a great score.
  • Extra points always matter. MBA ranking mechanics mean that statements like “After 740, it doesn’t matter” are never true.
