Ashleigh Shelby Rosette is a professor and scholar at Duke University, Fuqua School of Business, as well as one of the foremost experts on research at the intersection of leadership, gender, and race.
Dr. Rosette received her Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Master’s in Professional Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her Ph.D. in Management and Organizations from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Her research for her dissertation focuses on leadership, gender, race, and negotiations. As a doctoral student, Shelby Rosette worked as a teaching assistant to Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham.
Further, in her role as Senior Associate Dean of Executive MBA and Non-Degree Programs, she oversees the Weekend Executive MBA Program, the Global Executive MBA Program, Executive Education, Global Teams, and Information Technology.Before joining Duke University, she was an assistant professor at the University of Houston.
Prior to her academic career, Rosette worked as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for Arthur Andersen, a Chicago-based accounting firm. She has provided consulting services on leadership, diversity, decision-making, and negotiations to clients across various industries, including banking, auditing services, automobile manufacturing, medical services, and the social/non-profit sector.
Dr. Rosette’s primary research interests focus on how stereotypes and bias influence diversity in organizations, especially for top leaders. Her secondary area of research is negotiations, complementing her work on diversity.
She has published over 30 top academic research articles in prestigious journals like Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Psychological Science.
Her research has been recognized with awards presented by the Academy of Management, State Farm, Kellogg Teams and Groups Center, the Ford Foundation, the International Association of Conflict Management, and the Dispute Resolution Research Center. Dr. Rosette has conducted and presented her research in the United States, France, Spain, Portugal, Hong Kong, South Africa, The Netherlands, Austria, and Canada.
Her teaching philosophy is to empower and inspire. Specifically, she strives to empower students with knowledge and inspire them to become better leaders, managers, professionals, and colleagues. A student has said, “Ashleigh is very dynamic and her energy is infectious.”
A member of the Academy of Management, Dr. Rosette is AOM Subject Matter Expert in the areas of Conflict Management, Gender and Diversity, Leadership, and Organizational Behavior. Rosette is also an active member of the PhD Project, a nonprofit organization devoted to increasing diversity among business school faculty.
