Outstanding Consultant – Admitted Into CBS With Full Funding

I approached David end of April 2018 while planning to apply in Round 1 2018 and told him that I am aiming for the lower half of the top 10 MBA programs in the U.S. Even though David already had his slots for R1 applicants filled he took me as his client because I was living in close proximity to his office and was able to work with him in person. Shortly after, he began to intensively work with me on my applications. His services went far beyond what I expected to get when I approached him. He invited me to the Menlo office in Baarn and basically discussed (almost for an entire day) my personal life, academic path and professional career up to a point where he really understood what was driving me, what I am passionate about, what I am aiming for and what expectations I have when it comes to an MBA program. Based on that discussion, he thoroughly reviewed my school selection and helped me to identify schools that better fit my profile, highlighting all the, sometimes subtle, differences in seemingly similar programs, like recruiting of certain sectors, student body and club activities, culture or quality of classes. It was incredible how much he knew about all major programs and how well he understood what I am looking for. After we reviewed my school selection, he helped with school networking, preparation for campus visits, finding suitable MBA fairs for networking with admissions officers and providing me with contact details of student clubs I could reach out to. In parallel, we worked on my essays, CV and the next GMAT attempts. Throughout the process, he was always available and answered emails promptly. With regard to the GMAT, I was surprised how much support David had to offer in that respect. He identified my weaknesses and got me to touch with outstanding GMAT tutors to work on those. Furthermore, since he knew about a medical condition I have, he made me aware that I might qualify for accommodations. He helped me finding suitable medical experts in the US and supported me with my application. Due to his help, I got 50% extra time on the GMAT, which resulted in a 50 point increase (from 690 to 740). Ultimately, I was invited to an interview with four schools. David immediately took action and invited me again to Baarn where he and another Menlo consultant, Rebecca, practiced interviews with me. He flagged weaknesses in my application which the interviewer might raise, went through potential questions and did several practice interviews with me. The accuracy with which David predicted interview questions was incredible. For some of the interviews (e.g. Tuck and MIT) he has prepared me for almost 80% of the questions that were eventually asked. I basically only had to repeat what I rehearsed with David and Rebecca. Thanks to their amazing preparation I was calm, confident and attentive throughout each interview and didn’t have to deal with nervousness. After the first offers came in David supported me on scholarships. We developed a strategy to approach the schools and also reviewed external scholarship options. He reviewed my applications, suggested changes and brought in many new ideas. With his help, I was not only able to get into a top program but also to secure full funding for it. I got two external scholarships each worth around $75k and a $100k Columbia scholarship, therefore, the entire fees and living expenses are covered. The only costs I have to cover myself are David’s fees, which was the best investment I could have made. This summer I will join the Columbia Business School community, my first choice! I approached David with a poor GMAT score, no clear plan or strategy, a career that lacked any type of leadership experience and was purely technical, and no network when it comes to MBAs (I literally didn’t know a single one as it’s not that common to have an MBA in my industry). David identified and helped me to improve all these issues in my candidacy and gave me the right guidance to craft essays in which all my shortcomings became meaningless parts in a compelling story.
