Software Developer

We are looking for our first full-time software developer to assist us with our current software and digital marketing projects and to build new software to help us run more efficiently and better serve our clients.

The Company & Role

Menlo Coaching is a small admissions coaching firm that makes big investments into technology to run and grow the business.

To build our infrastructure, we use TypeScript (front-end and back-end), Ember.js, PostgreSQL, CentOS (Linux), and Google Cloud services (VM Instances, Cloud Functions, PubSub, Storage, DataStore, BigQuery, etc.).

Our marketing website is WordPress-based (PHP) with TypeScript/SCSS to build the front-end.

We have a strong bias toward automating away scutwork and have built extensive integrations between the various 3rd party SaaS products that we use to run the business, e.g. Basecamp, Copper CRM, ActiveCampaign, Xero, HelloSign.

To be considered for this position, you should have experience in developing front-end or back-end web apps using TypeScript or Javascript, automated testing & continuous integration, simple web design / CSS, git source control, basic Linux system administration & database administration.

You do not need extensive experience with all of these things, but you should be familiar with many of them and comfortable working with them, and you should be skilled at researching and teaching yourself how to use new programming languages and technologies.

In this position, you will also get exposure to the operations, sales and marketing parts of the company – for example, building marketing automation systems or improving our sales processes. We are looking for someone who is interested not just in coding but in actively helping us to grow and improve the business.

We are open to hiring an early-career (2+ years experience) or mid-level software developer for this position. You will work with the Director of Technology & Marketing, a software developer for more than 20 years, who can provide guidance and mentorship.

English level equivalent to C2 is required for this position.
